PROSJEKTSKOLEN is a non-profit private art school situated in Oslo. It was founded in 2005 by Vilde von Krogh – originally with a 1-year curriculum – as an alternative foundation year. It became a 2-year education in 2013. The main focus is on three dimensional contemporary art, a field which incorporates, but does not exclusively consist of; installation, sculpture, performance, sound art, video, theatre, scenography, costume and land art. The school is run by active contemporary artists and offers a wide range of guest teachers and lecturers.
Prosjektskolen is the most successful school in Norway in getting students admitted to higher education within the fields of art, media and architecture.

THE PROSJEKTSKOLEN IDEOLOGY
✱ Knowledge is not static and does not necessarily imply truth.
✱ Knowledge is mercurial and mutable, and always centered on experience and context.
✱ Knowledge is not necessarily about finding a definitive answer, rather it should instigate a path of open inquiry.
✱ Knowledge is acquired through the exchange of ideas and experiences – from past to present – from society to individual.
Based on such a mindset, the best form of learning should take the shape of a conversation instead of a hierarchical situation where the pedagogue simply hands over so-called facts to the recipient. Our goal is to create a space for a bona fide discussion rather than a one-way communication in established forms.
We strive to be a “laboratorium”, not an auditorium.
Art derives from several areas of knowledge, including history, theory and philosophy. But the driving force of art is the physical manifestation of the creative imagination, boundless and free from rigid definitions.
The creative process can be based in theory, as an illustrator of ideas and conveyor of opinions. However, the creative process can also be exempted from having a predetermined meaning and be meaningful in itself, e.g. like an expression of something less concrete and tangible, like an uncanny sensation.
One method is not better or worse than the other, and they do not necessarily have to be in opposition. Often there there can be a combination of different approaches, where some parts of the process are planned and directed, while others are spontaneous and unpredictable.
Our task is to guide the group and the individual as openly as possible into the world of opportunities, presenting a range of methods, practical as well as theoretical, while giving out as many keys as we can find, trying to get rid of the fear we all have in order to go out into the unknown. Courage is to challenge your own safety, and in this unbound state, anyone might stumble across significant aspects of oneself. It is often where we fail, we find – also in art.
We do not wish to be an educational institution where already acquired knowledge and abilities of the individual is superficially polished, but to create a space for trial and error.
Playfulness and seriousness are two sides of the same thing.
Vilde von Krogh,
Headmaster – Prosjektskolen (The Project School)
Oslo 2013
